Life at Coastcard has been quiet recently as I have been 'up north', enjoying the landscape, seascape, heritage and literature of southern Scotland and the north-east of England.
I spent a couple of nights in Durham, and visited three very different islands:
- Bute (west coast of Scotland)
- Inchmahome (on the Lake of Menteith, Scotland's only lake)
- Lindisfarne, aka Holy Island (off Northumbria).
We were in a different part of Scotland, but you can read about the Loch Garten Ospreys here on the RSPB blog. You can read about plans for BirdFair 2009 here.

I must get across to Bute one of these days. How exciting to see your first osprey, wonderful birds, I've not seen many
Well done on spotting the osprey.
We had had a local tip-off! ... and we had been to one of the Osprey-Watch Centres in the Borders to learn about these fine birds.
Welcome back home. Sounds like your visit was a success. Glad you were able to see your first Osprey.
Thanks for your comment. I love the sound of bagpipes. Have a great night.
Lovely to hear about your trip - and your island visits. Do you have some island poems brewing?
